A basílica, construída entre 1864 e 1868, foi projectada por Louis Lenormand e é a maior igreja de Nice. As suas características mais proeminentes são as duas torres quadradas de 65 m de altura, que dominam a frente leste, juntamente com uma grande janela rosada com cenas da Assunção de Maria.
